New Model for the Text Recycling Research Project

The NSF-funded Text Recycling Research Project (TRRP) has just released its new model text recycling policy for publishers. The TRRP policy is notable for being the first of its kind, providing a model policy applicable to all publishers of original research. You can read more about the policy’s rationale and approach in the official journals of the Council of Scientific Editors, Science Editing, and the European Association of Science Editors, European Science Editing. The TRRP plans to release materials for research ethics training based on the new policy in 2023. Full text of all TRRP publications and resources are freely available on its website at textrecycling.org.

Confronting Challenges In Academic Units Conference

Our CCAU 2022 – Conference Overview works with university leaders and faculty from universities across the country to address and work through specific issues or difficulties they are experiencing. A team from each campus will be coming to our 2022 workshop in Chicago, IL this upcoming March 30-31st. We will provide context on dealing with difficult situations in academic units, as well as extended sessions moderated by experienced university leaders to help each attending campus leadership team work through their own situation in a confidential setting with guidance available to develop clear, actionable strategies. Registration is by invitation only. Please contact us at ethicsctr@illinois.edu or 217-333-1416 to learn more and reserve your space.

HHMI collaboration

NCPRE is partnering with with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to create a professional development curriculum that equips all HHMI lab members to do their best research collaboratively and inclusively. Called “Labs That Work… For Everyone,” this project will provide HHMI scientists with tools to develop and sustain a lab culture that fosters research excellence, productivity, and strong interpersonal dynamics.

HHMI DEI Program

HHMI has recently announced their commitment to investing $2 billion over the next decade “to increase racial, ethnic, and gender diversity in science and to foster environments in which everyone can thrive.” NCPRE is proud to be working on one element of HHMI’s Goal Five,  to equip all HHMI lab heads with effective leadership and mentoring skills. NCPRE is developing a leadership development program for all HHMI lab heads and lab members,  Labs That Work… For Everyone, designed to focus on practical applications of collaboration skills for creating and maintaining cultures of excellence featuring scientific rigor, reproducibility, inclusion, and integrity.

AGU-Sloan Grant

NCPRE is teaming up with the American Geophysical Union to launch The AGU Ethics and Equity Initiative: Catalyzing Cultural Change in the Sciences with New Resources and Tracking Tools. This initiative, a three-year grant awarded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, is designed to directly address sexual harassment and other gender discrimination matters through new educational resources and validated measurement tools. The new resources in this project are designed to allow for broad adaptation by the science community. Read more.
